This rare blue gem is only found in the Dominican Republic. Rediscovered in 1974, Miguel Mendez took his young daughter's name, Larissa and the Spanish word for Sea (mar) and formed the name - Larimar. The more intense blue, and contrasts seen within the stone, the higher the quality.
